Seamless Opens and Impresses (vegasblog.latimes.com 12/19/2005)
Jaded is a word I hate especially since it is often used to describe me by readers anytime I don't like something. As I have been fortunate enough to see so many wonders in Las Vegas, it does take quite a bit to amaze me especially when it comes to nightclubs. But I swear I am not yet jaded and just want to let you know as honestly as I can what is and is not worth your precious vacation time and dollar in Las Vegas. And, on Saturday I was amazed by Seamless.
First, Seamless is not in a casino but a freestanding club located across from the Orleans casino. It has to be separate from the casinos because it is a topless bar until 4 AM when the furniture, decor and total environment are transformed (in the word of the publicist, manager, and everyone else who works there) "seamlessly" into a hipster after hours spot. I visited during the after hours set-up and my first sight upon entering was a gorgeous performer in a giant Champagne glass wearing pasties(I'll let you know when I go back to see that seamless transition into a pasty free world).
One of the brains behind Seamless is Brandon Roque formerly of the Light Group (wh ose Jet and Stack I wrote about on the Buffet recently). And, almost everything about Seamless recalls a high-end casino nightclub more than a gentleman's club. "It's all casino," Roque told me at the opening. "I give all that we are doing to what I learned at the Light Group." So, that means Seamless has plenty of VIP areas where expensive and trendy bottle service can be had and different rooms to divide the square footage into more intimate environments.
If there is one element of Seamless that is guaranteed to get people talking it is the unisex bathrooms which are individual glass doors which darken only after you turn the lock inside, if you forget to lock....
For years a discussion has revolved around the topic of how close casinos can get to the line of including topless bars without angering Nevada's casino regulators. The sexual nature of some advertising of Vegas nightclubs and, of course, burlesque dancers like Pussycat Dolls at Pure and at Forty Deuce have been as envelope pushing as casino environments have yet to dare. But Roque looks to be trying to reverse things by bringing the glamour and style of the Strip's nightclub world into the more traditionally grind-minded topless kingdoms. It will be interesting to see how things develop for Seamless. But I guarantee you it is worth seeing, and this critic, though NOT jaded, still doesn't say that too often. |
